Challenge League Seventh Round

The highly-anticipated clash between two sides looking for promotion didn't disappoint the home fans, as Setagaya prevailed to move clear into second position. Shano gave Setagaya a very early lead, with Fujimoto equalising on ten minutes. Tanaka Mariko blasted home her first of the season on 26 minutes and from then on Setagaya were in complete control. Fukuoka had very few chances and with 21 minutes remaining the dependable Mori Hitomi scored her ninth of the season to secure the points. Setagaya will expect another three points as they take on Cerezo Osaka Sakai, whom they beat 8-2 on the opening day. Fukuoka will also fully expect victory as they make the short journey to Oita to play bottom side Hoyo Sukarabu.

Ehime got their promotion campaign back on track following last week's shock loss to Cerezo Osaka Sakai. Akune Mana scored her fourth of the season to give the home side the lead early in the first half, with half-time substitute Nakada Maiko scoring just two minutes after coming on. Kushiyama made sure of all three points with her second in three games sixteen minutes before the end. Ehime will be confident of beating Bunnys again next weekend, while Nagano have a tough home game against Tokiwagi, who beat them with an additional time penalty in their first meeting.

Tokiwagi expected beat rival schoolgirls Cerezo Osaka Sakai, who managed only one shot in the entire match. That shot was good enough for a goal though, as it glanced in off a Tokiwagi player for an own goal to equalise Ichise Nana's first league goal since enrolling. Sasaki Miwa scored twice in the second half to continue her impressive run, and Shiraki Akari also showed her form with a goal just after Sasaki's second, with the latter supplying the final ball. Tokiwagi Gakuen are away in Nagano next weekend looking for continued improvement in their position, with their visitors today at home to the determined Setagaya.

Shizuoka Sangyo stayed in the hunt for promotion with a relatively comfortable win over the JSCL, who had taken the lead early through Kato Yoshimi, scoring her first ever league goal. Sayama Momoko, unusually playing as a forwards, headed in an equaliser just before half-time and following the break the home side were able to pull away, with Oda Kanna and Shirai Aoi scoring. Shizuoka will be expected to win handsomely against Je Vrille Kagoshima in their next match, while the JSCL take on the JFA Academy against whom they drew their first match this season.

Kagoshima once again suffered an enormous defeat, this time to table-topping Kanagawa, for whom Yoshimi Natsuki scored four goals, including a direct free kick and a penalty in additional time. Their next game is the big home match against Sayama, Kagoshima will look for some improvement against Shizuoka.

Nittaidai finally showed what they are capable of as they came back from a goal down to draw with Sayama in a game which they dominated. Arakawa Eriko had headed Sayama into the lead following an Ito Kanako corner kick, but Sayama couldn't find another and in the second half Shimada Chiaki scored from the spot to give the students a richly deserved point. They next playing Pleiades expecting to take home all three points. Sayama go to Sagamihara looking to avenge their opening day defeat against Nojima Stella Kanagawa.

The Academy had a very easy victory over nearby Pleiades, with Norimatsu Ruka scoring a hat-trick, Kojima Miku scoring two and Miyake Shiori and the visiting Carson Pickett also getting on the scoresheet. The Academy travel north to Niigata to play the JSCL next, with Pleiades hoping to keep a rein on the visiting Nittaidai.

Bunnys dominated against Hoyo but could not find the breakthrough until the 79th minute when Sawada Yuka, recently transferred from AS Elfen Sayama, scored her first of the season past Umemura in the Hoyo goal. Bunnys win three consecutive games and move onto nine points and well clear of trouble at the bottom; Hoyo stay rooted to the foot of the table. Having lost to every team in their block they now look to pick up valuable points wherever possible. Their next match is a local derby against Fukuoka and it is unlikely that they will withstand the pressure.
