JLSL Challenge League 1992

Japan Ladies Soccer League 1992

Yomiuri Soccer Club Ladies Beleza, who had changed their name to Yomiuri Nippon SC Ladies Beleza, won their third consective title without losing a game, with Shimizu likewise again finishing second. The season ran from June 6th until November 15th.

Japan Ladies Soccer League 1991

The 1991 JLSL season was affected by both the AFC Asian Cup in early summer and the first Women's World Cup held in China in November. The league therefore ran from June 22nd until February 9th, with a break from mid-October until January.

This season saw the first significant development since the start of the League in 1989: the expansion from six to ten teams, with a return to two games being played between each team.

The four new teams were Matsushita Denki LSC Bambina, Nikko Securities Dream Ladies, Asahi Kokusai Bunnys and Fujita Tendai SC Mercury. Tasaki Shinju Kobe Ladies changed their name to Tasaki Kobe Ladies prior to the season starting.

Yomiuri Soccer Club Ladies Beleza won their second consecutive championship, again going unbeaten all season.

Japan Ladies Soccer League 1990

In the JLSL's second season Yomiuri went unbeaten as they stormed to the title, finishing seven points ahead of title holders Suzuyo Shimizu FC Lovely Ladies, who had changed their name prior to this season.

This season saw each team play three games against the opposition, thus each team played fifteen games. The season ran from April 21st until January 27th.

Japan Ladies Soccer League 1989

The first season of the Japan Ladies Soccer League began with the opening day match between Yomiuri Soccer Club Ladies Beleza and Shimizu FC in Tokyo at 6:30 pm on September 9th, 1989. Takakura Asako scored the first goal in the twenty-seventh minute, with an assist from Tezuka Takako. Hayakawa Akiko added a second direct from a free kick and Beleza won the match 2-0.

Shimizu would have their revenge in the last game of the season, January 28th, 1990. In front of 1,300 spectators they beat Beleza 2-1 to take the title on goal difference. Shimizu took the lead in the eighteenth minute, Kioka Futaba scoring with Handa Etsuko assisting. The Shimizu defence held up well under sustained Beleza pressure, but eventually an equaliser was found, Takakura heading in from a corner kick. It looked likely that Beleza would go on to take the title, but just three minutes later Shimizu scored again, Kioka the provider this time, with Yamaguchi Sayuri scoring the championship winning goal.

Matches were eighty minutes in duration, with two points for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss. In the event of two sides finishing level in the table, the method of differentiation was first superior goal difference, then head-to-head record and finally play-off games.
