22nd All-Japan Women's Inter-Collegiate Championships - Second Round

Second Round Matches, ties played on Friday 27th of December:

Match 9:
Waseda University  3 - 4  Himeji Dokkyo University
(Attendance: 197)

Last year's runners-up Waseda University had a flying start against Himeji Dokkyo University today with a headed goal from Fukuzawa Manami in the opening minute. Himeji Dokkyo equalised just seven minutes later through Okajima Eri, after Waseda goalkeeper Mita Isayo had spilled the ball. The Hyogo side then took a surprise lead from a direct free kick scored by Amishiro Anna. Mita and her defence made another error at the start of the second half, allowing Sugisawa Miho to score Himeji Dokkyo's third. Himeji Dokkyo could hardly believe it when they scored a fourth, another from Sugisawa. Waseda fought back, with two goals from Shono Kanako and Watai Shiori, but it was too late and Himeji Dokkyo held on for a sensational victory.

Match 10:
Tokyo International University  2 - 0  Shizuoka Sangyo University
(Attendance: 133)

Shizuoka Sangyo University, who finished sixth in the Challenge League with the help of some non-student players, were surprised in the 22nd minute when Aizawa Yuri, scorer of TIU's two opening goals on Wednesday, gave the newcomers the lead, and things got worse for Shizuoka Sangyo in the second half when that lead was doubled, with Aizawa again the scorer. Shizuoka Sangyo fought back well, but TIU did enough to hold them off to win a famous victory which sees them into the last eight at their first attempt.

Match 11:
Mukogawa Women's University  2 - 3  Niigata University of Health and Welfare
(Attendance: 80)

Niigata University of Health and Welfare took a two goal lead into half-time, those goals both coming from Takahashi Miyuki. In the 48th minute NUHW extended their lead to three, with Fukasawa Miki the scorer. Mukogawa Women's University immediately replied through Yatsugi Akane, and she scored another six minutes from time to set up a dramatic finish. NUHW held on for the win though, and progress to Sunday's quarter-final.

Match 12:
University of Tsukuba  1 - 1  Kanto Gakuen University
University of Tsukuba win 3-2 on penalties
(Attendance: 50)

The University of Tsukuba had finished behind Kanto Gakuen University in both the Kanto League and the Kanto Universities' League, but took the lead in the eleventh minute with a goal from Otomo Akane. With just two minutes remaining Kanto Gakuen rescued themselves with an equaliser from Minamino Arisa. The game thus went to penalties, which the Univeristy of Tsukuba won 3-2 to progress to a quarter-final match against the Niigata University of Health and Welfare.

Match 13:
Kibi International University  4 - 0  Himeji Hinomoto College
(Attendance: 50)

In strong winds and heavy rain, Kibi International University struggled to break down Himeji Hinomoto University in the first half despite dominating play. Finally, in the 64th minute, following a scramble in the box, Kibi captain Sugita Ami calmly slotted home to give the tournament favourites the lead. Kanbara Misaki added a second five minutes later, and Sugita had another just moments later as Kibi finally showed their class. Shigemasa Kai added one for herself as the game eventually ended in a comfortable victory for Kibi.

Match 14:
Shobi University  1 - 0  Musashigaoka College
(Attendance: 120)

Saitama rivals Musashigaoka College and Shobi University played out a scoreless first half, but in the 53rd minute Shobi took the lead over last year's semi-finalists through Orita Aya. Musashigaoka had no reply, and it will be Shobi who take on Kibi International University on Sunday.

Match 15:
Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences  5 - 0  Hokuriku University
(Attendance: 68)

Osaka University of Health and Sport Science as expected had no trouble whatsoever against Hokuriku University, taking a four goal lead into half-time. Their scorers were Kusano Shiho, Kurahara Akane, Matsuoka Sayuri with a brace and in the second half Ishikawa Yuu added a fifth.

Match 16:
Fukuoka University  0 - 7  Nippon Sport Science University
(Attendance: 75)

Nippon Sport Science University made easy work of their game against Fukuoka University, with four first half goals from Shimada Chiaki, Uemura Shoko, Fuse Kanako and Oguri Mao.
