21st All Japan High School Women's Soccer Tournament

Final Match, played Thursday, January 17th, 2013

Match 31:
Tokiwagi Gakuen High School  2 - 0  Kamimura Gakuen High School
(Attendance: 1,041)

Tokiwagi Gakuen won their second successive schools' championship, and their fifth in total, as they overcame rivals Kamimura Gakuen in Shizuoka today. A Michigami Ayaka shot in the first minute wasn't held by Kamimura goalkeeper Ogawa Mai and Shiraki Akari had time to spare in scoring. Kamimura pushed hard for an equaliser, but in the 62nd minute Horii Mizuki found herself free in the penalty area following a deflection. From then on Tokiwagi held on, with Kamimura becoming increasingly desperate to get themselves back in the game.

Although Kamimura did create some good chances, Tokiwagi's strong defense allied with Hayashizaki Mei's confident goalkeeping kept the Kagoshima team at bay, and their attackers were able to keep posession and make chances of their own at the other end. Both sides' first and second year players will be back next year's championship, while the third year players look forward to more development in the next stage of their education and football.

Inter-Collegiate Championships - Final

Final Match, played on Sunday 6th of January:

Match 23:
Waseda University  1 - 2  Nippon Sport Science University
(Attendance: 6,092)

Nittaidai reaffirmed their status as the team to beat in the Inter-Collegiate Championships as they overcame Waseda in fine sunshine in the National Stadium today. Waseda came into the game in excellent form, having swept aside Musashigaoka College in the semi-final two days previously to reach their fifth final in eight years, and retained the same starting eleven. Nittaidai had once again reached the final following a penalty shoot-out against Kibi Koku, and they made one change, with Sato Minami coming into the side having made an impression starting in the final three Challenge League matches.

Nittaidai started the game the brighter, and having found their rhythm took the lead on fourteen minutes. Fujisawa Marin powered forward from defence to make inroads down the left wing and through determination and skill forced her way through the Waseda defence to give first year student Uemura Shoko an easy chance to score.

Nittaidai were suitably elated and just four minutes later had a second, with Uemura expertly scoring past Suzuki having been sent clear by a through ball from Shimada Chiaki. Waseda were struggling to get Omiya and Seguchi into the game and already looked like a beaten team. However, from a corner kick Seguchi picked up the ball and drilled it home to give Waseda hope going into the half-time break.

In the second half Waseda did as much as they could to find a way to equalise, but the Nittaidai defence was well-marshalled and highly experienced and with Yamamoto in goal producing a fine display Nittaidai always looked to have control of the game. In midfield Oguri Mao and captain Shimokawa Saori were as industrious and composed as always and Shimada and Uemura a constant threat up front. Waseda captain Tanimoto Haruna worked hard to bring her side back into the game and was extremely distressed upon the final whistle in this, her final year.

Nittaidai's win extends their record to fifteen wins in twenty-one finals, and they look forward to another year in the Challenge League before defending their title. Waseda look to continue their dominance in the Kanto League before attempting to dethrone their illustrious neighbours.

Inter-Collegiate Championships - Semi-Final Matches

Semi Final Matches, ties played on Friday 4th of January:

Match 21:
Waseda University  4 - 0  Musashigaoka College
(Attendance: 939)

In blustery conditions Waseda overcame Musashigaoka with a show of strength to progress to their fifth final. Their most recent championship victory came in January 2011 when they overpowered today's opponents early in the game, and Waseda's forward play was again much too powerful for the Musashigaoka defenders.

Two powerful strikes from Yamamoto Maya and Ishida Minami within a minute of each other set the pattern for the rest of the game. Both goals had been set up by Omiya Reona who impressed recently in the Empress' Cup. The Tokyo side added two more goals in the 41st and 42nd minutes to allow themselves a comfortable second half, with those goals coming from Seguchi Nanami and Watai Shiori.

Match 22:
Kibi International University  2 - 2  Nippon Sport Science University
Nippon Sport Science University win 5-4 on penalties
(Attendance: 488)

Kibi Koku's players were once again left heart-broken as for the second straight year they were eliminated at the semi-final stage on penalties by Nittaidai. The game had started well for the Okayama side as they scored two quick goals midway through the first half, Sugita Ami scoring with a cross cum shot and captain Takahashi Chiho following up soon after to give the Nadeshiko League newcomers a seemingly comfortable lead over their Challenge League rivals.

In the second half Nittaidai came back strongly, with Oguri Mao making her presence felt following a disappointing first half. Following a desperate defensive scramble with twenty minutes remaining, Shimada Chiaki had a chance to shoot at goal and didn't need a second invitation, and with the momentum swinging back to Nittaidai, Kibi Koku looked to reorganise and stay composed. However, Nittaidai weren't in any mood to surrender and with seven minutes remaining substitute Ishii Chiharu found Uemura Shoko on the left wing with a fine pass, and her cross was hooked home by Nittaidai's other substitute Goto Ami.

With no further goals the game went to extra time, and though Uemura should have scored when clean through, there was no breakthrough and the match with seeming inevitability went to a penalty shoot-out. Kibi struck the first blow when Morimoto Kiyo saved from Sakurai Mayuka, but Yamamoto Arisa then brought Nittaidai back into it when she dived to save from Muramatsu Fumiko. The game was decided on Kibi's sixth kick, Takeda Arisa striking the crossbar to her great despair.

Kibi Koku remain the most impressive university side never to have reached the Inter-Collegiate final. Nittaidai progress to their seventeenth as justifiable favourites.
