68th National Sports Festival of Japan - Preliminary Regional Rounds

Each year the prefectures of Japan compete in numerous sports in the National Sports Festival of Japan. In total there are forty-seven such prefectures. In women's football, sixteen qualifying teams participate in the final competition. This year's event takes place in Tokyo and so they have qualified automatically as hosts. Hokkaido also qualified automatically and from the remaining regions fourteen teams played a series of play-offs to determine the participants for the final tournament which begins on September 30th with the final on October 3rd.


Tohoku

Six teams, with one to qualify. Miyagi and Fukushima were given byes into the second round.

Yamagata  4 - 0  Iwate
Akita  1 - 7  Aomori

Miyagi  7 - 0  Yamagata
Aomori  7 - 8  Fukushima (aet)

Miyagi  9 - 0  Fukushima

Miyagi qualify for the final tournament.


Kanto

Seven teams, with three to qualify. Ibaraki were given a bye into the second round.

Tochigi  0 - 4  Saitama
Gunma  4 - 2  Yamanashi
Kanagawa  0 - 1  Chiba (aet)

Ibaraki  4 - 1  Saitama
Gunma  0 - 3  Chiba

Second round losers' play-off:
Saitama  4 - 5  Gunma

Ibaraki, Chiba and Gunma qualify for the final tournament.


Hokushin'etsu

Five teams, with two to qualify. Niigata, Nagano and Fukui were given a bye into the second round.

Toyama  0 - 8  Ishikawa

Nagano  3 - 2  Fukui
Niigata  5 - 2  Ishikawa

Nagano and Niigata qualify for the final tournament.
 

Tokai

Four teams, with one to qualify.

Aichi  0 - 4  Mie
Gifu  0 - 3  Shizuoka

Mie  2 - 1  Shizuoka (aet)

Mie qualify for the final tournament.


Kinki

Two divisions of three teams, with the two winners of the knockout tournament to qualify. Osaka and Hyogo received byes into the second round.

Nara  0 - 1  Kyoto
Osaka  4 - 0  Kyoto

Osaka qualify for the final tournament.

Wakayama  2 - 2  Shiga - Wakayama win 5-4 on penalty kicks
Wakayama  0 - 1  Hyogo

Hyogo qualify for the final tournament.


Chugoku

Five teams in a round robin tournament. The winning team would qualify.

Yamaguchi  0 - 6  Hiroshima
Tottori  0 - 6  Okayama
Shimane  0 - 1  Yamaguchi
Shimane  0 - 6  Hiroshima
Okayama  2 - 0  Yamaguchi
Tottori  1 - 0  Shimane
Hiroshima  2 - 1  Tottori
Okayama  9 - 0   Shimane
Yamaguchi  1 - 1  Tottori
Hiroshima  0 - 3  Okayama

Okayama qualify for the final tournament as winners.


Shikoku

Four teams in a round robin tournament. The top two teams would qualify.

Kagawa  1 - 9  Ehime
Tokushima  4 - 0  Kochi
Kagawa  0 - 3  Tokushima
Ehime  7 - 1  Kochi
Kagawa  2 - 1  Kochi
Tokushima  2 - 3  Ehime

Ehime and Tokushima qualify by virtue of finishing first and second respectively.


Kyushu

Two divisions of four teams, with the two winners of each knockout tournament to qualify.

Fukuoka  7 - 1  Kumamoto
Miyazaki  2 - 3  Oita

Fukuoka  3 - 1  Oita

Fukuoka qualify for the final tournament.

Kagoshima  6 - 0  Okinawa
Saga  0 - 1  Nagasaki

Kagoshima  1 - 0  Nagasaki

Kagoshima qualify for the final tournament.
