Challenge League Fifth Round

Nojima Stella Kanagawa Sagamihara  0 - 1  Fukuoka J. Anclas
(Attendance: 308)

Having been beaten in all four games thus far, Fukuoka produced a huge surprise in beating Nojima Stella in Sagamihara today. The hosts did most of the attacking but couldn't put the ball away and fell to a sucker punch from Fujisawa Marin, scoring her first goal since graduating from Nittaidai.

This win will come as a huge relief to Fukuoka, who will be hoping for a repeat against league leaders Takatsuki next Sunday. Nojima travel to Hiroshima for their first encounter with Ange Violet.

Tokiwagi Gakuen High School  0 - 1  JFA Academy Fukushima
(Attendance: 200)

On the evidence of this performance, Tokiwagi Gakuen will struggle to retain the title as they found attacking opportunities in limited supply and are clearly missing the width which last season was provided by Sasaki Miwa and Ito Miki.

On a very poor pitch in Matsushima the players struggled to control the bobbling ball and gradually the JFA Academy took control of the game. Tokiwagi had a warning towards the end of the first half when Tachibana Yo burst through and smashed a shot against the crossbar.

The game was settled early in the second half, Moriya Miyabi calmly scoring from the penalty spot. Tokiwagi huffed and puffed but the Academy's defence was solid and as aforementioned, without width up front the home side's ability to test defences is severly limited.

Tokiwagi Gakuen are at home again next Sunday, hosting Shizuoka Sangyo who are themselves struggling without their graduates. The Academy make the short trip to Shimizu.

Sfida Setagaya FC  4 - 3  Shizuoka Sangyo University Iwata Bonita
(Attendance: 355)

An exciting game in Tokyo saw both sides lead before Fukuhara Nao won the game for Setagaya in the final minute as they stay level with Takatsuki and Nittaidai at the top of the table.

Both sides scored in the first ten minutes, Kanno Mie's goal for the away side cancelled out by Hasegawa Aoi, her first ever goal in the league. Setagaya went in at half-time in the lead, Tanaka Marina the scorer on 27 minutes, and two minutes after the restart she scored again and Setagaya appeared to have done enough to win the game.

Shizuoka aren't a team to lie down though, and they scored twice to level things up with nine minutes remaining, Oda Kanna and Ishida Risa the scorers, and it seemed that though they had been at times overwhelmed, they may well escape with a point. It was not to be however, as Setagaya gathered themselves for a final push cluminating in Fukuhara's winner.

Setagaya have another test away to fifth placed Harima. Shizuoka travel to Miyagi to take on Tokiwagi Gakuen.

Speranza FC Osaka Takatsuki  5 - 1  Ehime FC Ladies
(Attendance: 444)

Takatsuki stay top on goal difference following a commanding display against an Ehime side clearly some distance from being competitive.

Takatsuki were three goals up by half-time, with Saito Toshiko scoring another brace to go with the one she scored against Bunnys, with Hirano Satoko scoring her first of the season.

Akune Mana pulled one back for Ehime just after half-time but any hopes of a revival were washed away when Maruyama Karina scored her first of the season from the penalty spot, and a fifth for Takatsuki was provided by Taketani Misato, scoring eight minutes into her very first league appearance.

Takatsuki will be without Maruyama for the international break, and their next match comes against the resurgent Fukuoka. Ehime are away to bottom side Cerezo Osaka Sakai against whom they surprisingly lost last season and will be looking to avoid a similar fate.

Cerezo Osaka Sakai Ladies  0 - 4  Nittaidai Football Club Ladies
(Attendance: 391)

Cerezo Osaka Sakai, who are now bottom as a result of this result, are in danger of relegation if they cannot recover, though with an expansion to the league planned, they should survive in any case. For the moment, their coaches must work to restore confidence in the players that they can compete. Nittaidai keep pace with Takatsuki and Setagaya at the top on thirteen points, with their goals coming today from Ito, Maeda, Uemura - her sixth thus far - and Hirata, for whom this was her first goal for Nittaidai.

The students will look for another convincing win away to Bunnys on Saturday, with Cerezo's schoolgirls at home to Ehime.

Ange Violet Hiroshima  3 - 1  Bunnys Kyoto SC
(Attendance: 772)

Having lost their two opening games, Ange Violet have now found their rhythm and now have three consecutive victories. Katsurama's eleventh minute opener was equalised four minutes later by Matsuda Nozomi, scoring her first goal of 2014. Bunnys' relief was shortlived, as the home side went straight up the other end and retook the lead through their U-17 World Cup winner Saihara Mizuki, her first league goal. Yamashita Kurumi added a third - also her first in the league - to wrap up the points for the newcomers.

Ange Violet are at home again next weekend, taking on the stumbling Nojima; Bunnys will hope to shore up their defence against the free-scoring Nittaidai.

Shimizu Daihachi Pleiades  3 - 2  Japan Soccer College Ladies
(Attendance: 110)

Shimizu have their first points of the season, and their heroine today was Miura Kyoko, who scored twice on the occasion of the 200th league appearance. The veteran had given her side the lead on the tenth minute before Kusakari equalised following a mistake by Maruyama in the Shimizu goal. Miura scored again in first half additional time to restore the home side's lead - the first time this season that they have scored more than once.

Not long into the second half the JSC equalised again, Yoneda Saki scoring her first league goal, before Shimizu captain Kanashiro Wakana won it for the hosts as they record their first victory to move them off the bottom.

Shimizu may have difficulty repeating the trick against the JFA Academy next week at home, while the JSC face a similarly difficult task away to high-scoring Nagano.

AS Harima Albion  0 - 1  AC Nagano Parceiro Ladies
(Attendance: 812)

Harima suffered their first league defeat at any level as Nagano's Yokoyama Kumi continues her outstanding start to the season with her new club.

Yokoyama's tenth of the season after only five games came from the penalty spot, and Nagano did enough to hold off a determined fightback from Harima.

As a result, Nagano leap over Harima into fourth position, ahead of their hosts today on goal difference. Nagano welcome the JSC next weekend hoping to continue to keep pace with the leaders. Harima are again at home, this time to another side desperately seeking promotion, Sfida Setagaya.
