L.League 1999

Due to the withdrawal of four teams at the end of the 1998 season, the league was reduced in size to eight teams, with Urawa Reinas and the Nippon Sport Science University joining the remaining six teams.

OKI FC Winds withdrew from the league at the end of the season and closed its doors, while the Nippon Sport Science University withdrew from league football. They later rejoined the newly formed Challenge League in 2010, and are called Nittaidai FC Ladies.

The league abandoned its extra time and penalties system, and returned to a points system (three for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss). The 1999 season ran from July 18th until December 12th.

Yomiuri Beleza were renamed as NTV Beleza.
