Challenge League Thirteenth Round

Tokiwagi Gakuen High School  0 - 2  Vegalta Sendai Ladies
(Attendance: 800)

Hirata Miki and Kakinoki Runa came into the Tokiwagi side for the second of their two derby games against Vegalta Sendai. Vegalta themselves were unchanged from the side which had beaten JFA Academy last week. Tokiwagi started with Shiraki up front while top scorer Michigami was employed in midfield in an attempt to stifle the Vegalta attackers.

Tokiwagi succeeded for most of the first half in repelling successive waves of attacks before finally in the 43rd minute Uetsuji picked up the ball following an unsuccessful defensive clearance and struck sweetly into the top corner out of the reach of Hayashizaki in the Tokiwagi goal.

Shiraki was withdrawn at half-time, with Kosuda Rina coming on in her stead. Michigami was pushed up front as the lone striker and caused Vegalta some heart-stopping moments as her power and speed were often too much for the Vegalta defence. In the 72nd minute however, Vegalta could finally breathe more easily when last week's two-goal heroine Kakazu lashed home from a Yasumoto pass. Tokiwagi had no answer and Vegalta go into their crunch match with Takahashi four points clear.

Sfida Setagaya FC  4 - 0  Bunnys Kyoto SC
(Attendance: 689)

In front of their largest home crowd since the opening weekend, Setagaya beat Bunnys Kyoto by four goals, though in truth the game was much closer than the scoreline suggests. The first half was goalless, and it wasn't until the 51st minute that Setagaya had the lead, Ishibuchi heading her ninth goal of the season to relieve the home players and supporters.

Seven minutes later Setagaya began to feel comfortable as a sweeping move down the left led to Sasago and Oshima exchanging passes before Oshima headed in past Akiyama.

Two goals in the last five minutes put some gloss on the scoreline for the Nadeshiko League hopefuls, with first Nagasawa and then Usuda, with her first goal of the season, striking to make the final scoreline 4-0.

Bunnys are next at home to the JFA Academy girls, while Setagaya look to push on towards the top four with a visit to Shizuoka.

JFA Academy Fukushima  4 - 0  AC Nagano Parceiro Ladies
(Attendance: 146)

Masuya Rika was again in fine form for the JFA Academy, as she scored her first hat-trick of the season to take her total for the season to twelve goals. The underage international had scored two against the same opposition early in the season in a 5-0 win, and following her return from a training session in Spain once again showed her class.

With ten minutes played Masuya had scored two goals to already put the result beyond doubt. Kojima Miku wasn't to be left out, as she scored her fourth in the previous five games she has started. Kojima's goal came in the 55th minute and two minutes later Masuya completed the scoring to emphasise the Academy's superiority.

Nagano stay second from bottom, with five points from their twelve games. JFA Academy retain their position in the top half of the table.

FC Takahashi Kibikokusaidaigaku Charme  8 - 0  Japan Soccer College Ladies
(Attendance: 250)

Ahead of their top of the table clash with Vegalta Sendai, Takahashi welcomed JSCL and showed the bottom side no mercy in soundly beating them by eight goals. In the entire game JSCL only had one shot at goal in comparison to Takahashi's twenty-eight. Within eight minutes the home side were three goals up, with Takano opening the scoring and Nishikawa Asuka adding two for herself.

In a seven minute spell just before half-time Takahashi scored three more, the goals coming from Muramatsu, Sugita (from the penalty spot), and Shigemasa. Shigemasa was rested at half-time, along with Nishikawa and Tachibana Rei.

In the second half Kurakazu Shiho scored two to open her season's account in what was her first start following four substitute appearances this season.

This comprehensive victory keeps Takahashi within sight of promotion to the Nadeshiko League, and a victory over Vegalta Sendai next Sunday would put them just a point behind their illustrious opponents.

Ehime FC Ladies  3 - 1  Je Vrille Kagoshima
(Attendance: 320)

Ehime took all three points at home to Kagoshima to take them to fourteen points for the season and cement their position in mid-table. Kagoshima had taken the lead in the eleventh minute through Imanaka Yuri, for whom this was her fourth goal of the season and third in three games.

The visitors could not hold on until half-time as Nishigawa equalised following a pass from Yamashiro. Eight minutes into the second half Ehime's top scorer Nakada Maiko scored her eighth of the season, again following a pass from Yamashiro and with eleven minutes remaining Nishigawa scored her second to confirm the result.

Kagoshima remain on eleven points, but should feel capable of remaining ahead of the weaker sides below them. Ehime next take on JSCL whom they will feel confident of beating.

(Attendance: 63)

Nittaidai kept up the pressure on the top two with a comfortable 2-0 win over fellow students Shizuoka. Shimada Chiaki scored from a free kick in the 54th minute to give the home side the lead they had deserved, and fourteen minutes later Uemura Shoko showed determination to score her eighth goal of the season.

Shizuoka's top two scorers this year, Okuda Mika and Oda Kanna had all of Shizuoka's seven shots in the game between them but could not prevent Nittaidai from winning their tenth game of the season. Nittaidai's next game is away to Kagoshima and they will feel confident of getting a win to remain in touch with the leaders Vegalta Sendai and FC Takahashi. Shizuoka are at home to Sfida Setagaya.

Challenge League Twelfth Round

Vegalta Sendai begin second half of season in determined fashion

Vegalta Sendai Ladies  2 - 1  JFA Academy Fukushima
(Attendance: 806)

Vegalta Sendai continued on their merry way to the Nadeshiko League with a tight victory at home against JFA Academy. JFA put out their strongest side, with the girls who had played in Spain making their return.

Okinawan Kakaku Asuka, one of only two Sendai players who have started every game this season, got both goals in a three minute spell in the first half, the first a left footed strike from a Uetsuji corner and the second a header from an Ideue cross. The Academy's top scorer by quite some distance this year has been Masuya Rika, and she struck again in the 55th minute to make things tense for the home side and its supporters.

In the end Sendai did enough to hang on and take all three points, and though the sub-1,000 crowd will have been disappointing in this trip to Koriyama in Fukushima prefecture, next week's game against local schoolgirls Tokiwagi Gakuen promises to be a memorable encounter. Sendai stay top, while JFA Academy are sixth.

Scorers: Masuya Rika (55 mins)

Japan Soccer College Ladies  2 - 3  Tokiwagi Gakuen High School
(Attendance: 160)

JSCL found themselves in the highly unusual position of being two goals up in a game, when an own goal and an Iwasaki Manami headed goal saw them take the initiative against high-flying Tokiwagi Gakuen. Unfortunately for the home side, the lead lasted barely seventeen minutes as Matsuura Nagisa scored two to add to her goal last game to bring the visitors level by half-time.

In the 76th minute the dependable Ito Miki took a pass from Michigami Ayaka and scored the winner to keep her side in the top four with the home game against Vegalta Sendai to come. JSCL stay bottom, three points adrift of Nagano.

Shizuoka Sangyo University Iwata Bonita  3 - 3  Je Vrille Kagoshima
(Attendance: 162)

Shizuoka and Kagoshima played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with neither side able to keep a lead for very long.

In the 34th minute Oda Kanna resumed where the left off last time with another goal to give the students a 1-0 half-time lead. Nine minutes after the restart Shizuoka were looking good for all three points when captain Kanefuda Anzu scored from the spot. However, the lead quickly disappeared when Kagoshima went on a 21 minute three-goal scoring spree. Nakashima Ayaka pulled the first back four minutes after the penalty had been scored, and Niiho Madoka headed home the equaliser seven minutes later. With eleven minutes remaining the visitors had the lead for the first time, Imanaka Yuri finding the net from a Nakashima pass. Their joy was short-lived though, as barely two minutes later Oda struck again for Shizuoka; her second brace in two games for her side and their second 3-3 draw in a row.

Both sides are now well out of contention for promotion but will be looking for wins next weekend over sides they have already respectively beaten this season.

In the tenth minute Ishii Chiharu scored following good work down the middle by Uemura Shoko, and Uemura herself added the second ten minutes into the second half, keeping up her good run with her seventh goal in as many games.

Bunnys stay deep in the division, third from bottom and next face Sfida Setagaya who beat them by seven goals to nil in their first meeting this season. Nittaidai face fellow students Shizuoka with a score to settle, having lost the away fixture 2-0.

Ehime FC Ladies  1 - 3  FC Takahashi Kibikokusaidaigaku Charme
(Attendance: 570)

Ehime's largest crowd of the season turned out for the visit of second-placed FC Takahashi and witnessed an astonishing attacking display by the visiting students. In total Takahashi had 28 shots at goal compared to Ehime's 4, though the important statistic is that Takahashi won and remain in contention at the top.

Takano Saki wasted no time in putting her side one up, Nishikawa Asuka sending her through to score. Despite an onslaught on the Ehime goal, the score remained 1-0 until the second minute of the second half, when Shigemasa slotted home for her first of the season. Muramatsu made it 3-0 with her first of the season, knocking the ball in from a corner with less than ten minutes remaining. Ehime did get a consolation though, Onoyama heading in with five minutes left.

Ehime stay mid-table and are at home to Kagoshima, who have the same number of points, while FC Takahashi will be heavy favourites to beat JSCL at home next Sunday.

Challenge League Eleventh Round

Vegalta Sendai open four point gap at top

Nittaidai Football Club Ladies  0 - 2  Vegalta Sendai Ladies
(Attendance: 500)

Nittaidai welcomed their largest crowd of the season for the visit of Vegalta Sendai, indeed the attendance of 500 was not far from Nittaidai's total attendance record for their previous five home games combined of 572. Sendai took the lead mid-way through the first half. Kakazu found Ito Minako and her header on to Ono was headed in for a goal which will surely have relaxed the division leaders. In the 74th minute the travelling players and supporters could relax even more when Sakai Yuki headed in from a Koyama corner.

With FC Takahashi not playing, Vegalta Sendai now have a four point gap with both sides having played eleven games, half the season's total. With ten wins and one draw - that against local rivals Tokiwagi whom they play at the end of the month - Sendai must now be extremely confident of promotion to the top division come November. Nittaidai stay third, seven points behind the leaders.

Sfida Setagaya FC  8 - 1  Japan Soccer College Ladies
(Attendance: 219)

JSCL's woes continued as they were comprehensively beaten by a Sfida Setagaya team looking for a decisive victory following their own heavy defeat to Vegalta Sendai last weekend. By the 62nd minute Setagaya had built a six goal lead, with goals from Tanaka Mariko, Tanaka Marina, two from Mori Hitomi, Oshima Sayuri, and Uchiyama Tomoka. JSCL got a goal back through Iwasaki in her first start since the opening game. Tanaka Marina scored her second from the penalty spot on 85 minutes, and Ishibuchi finished the scoring two minutes later. That was Ishibuchi's eighth of the season, one behind top scorer Mori.

Setagaya are fifth, one point behind Tokiwagi, while JSCL stay bottom with little prospect of improvement in the second half of the season.

AC Nagano Parceiro Ladies  2 - 3  Je Vrille Kagoshima
(Attendance: 172)

Nagano lost to fellow strugglers Kagoshima today in a tight result which belied how much more possession and chances Kagoshima had compared to their hosts. Kagoshima took the lead in the ninth minute when Niiho Madoka struck right-footed for her second this season. After the ball was poorly cleared by Nagano in the 26th minute, Sannomiya also scored right-footed for her second of the season.

Approaching half-time Nagano suddenly found themselves back in the game. In the 40th and 41st minutes they struck through Hashiura and Urasaki - both their side's top scorers this season - to strike panic in the Kagoshima ranks. The home side's elation was only to last momentarily though, as Imanaka Yuri popped up with a headed goal which would ultimately prove to be the winner. Like her side's other two scorers, it was her second of the season, a nice reward for three players all of whom have started every game this season.

Nagano remain on five points from their eleven games, while Kagoshima remain ninth, a point behind Ehime.

Nadeshiko League Ninth Round

INAC Kobe win L. Classico with Kawasumi penalty, take five point lead into summer break

NTV Beleza  0 - 1  INAC Kobe Leonessa
(Attendance: 16, 663)

INAC introduced Beverly Goebel-Yanez to Japanese League football today against their strongest opposition yet in NTV Beleza who welcomed back Iwashimizu and Iwabuchi for what promised to be a tense affair, with over 16,600 spectators hoping it would be an entertaining one.

In the first minute Goebel-Yanez had a chance to make a dramatic start to her INAC career when the ball was headed to her by Kinga but under pressure she headed wide. She linked up with Ohno minutes later but the pass was ruled offside, as INAC had showed all of the attacking in the first four minutes. Ito Kanako then found herself in on goal with a good chance for Beleza but struck straight at Kaihori.

The ball was pinged around midfield for the next while until the tenth minute when a combination of good passing and defensive uncertainty almost allowed INAC to score. Takase played the ball through the legs of defender Sudo, and Goebel-Yanez almost scored, Iwabuchi easily beat her marker and shot just wide.

Ohno tried to do too much in front of goal and after Iwashimizu Doko cleared for a corner, Ohno had options inside. Tanaka went in too hard on Iwashimizu and the chance was lost. To this point though, it was clear that Beleza were having problems with long balls played over the top from midfield - a problem INAC have had in past games. Takase had a shot in the 16th minute but that was easily saved. Kawasumi on the left wasn't having much joy but when she moved inside Goebel-Yanez went wide and supplied Kawasumi with a chance to shoot but it was wide. Goebel-Yanez had a great chance herself when she held off Doko but shot badly wide when odds-on to hit the target.

Beleza were attacking sporadically, but in no easily discernible way. A free kick outside the area saw Ito shoot straight at the 'keeper. Iwabuchi showed her class in the 26th minute and when she had a pass to Nagasato returned, her rasping shot was blocked away for a corner. She had two chances to score from the corner, but desperate last-ditch defending prevented her from giving the home side the lead.

In the 30th minute Hara, Nagasato and Iwabuchi linked up and Iwabuchi's shot towards the corner was just turned away from goal by the stretching Kaihori. Having been subjected to an INAC onslaught, it was Beleza who were now making the best chances, with Iwabuchi the most impressive player on the pitch.

Kiryu had the best chance of the match in the 34th minute when almost incredibly sent clear by a ball from deep inside the Beleza half by the alert Nagasato following an INAC corner. She ran towards the middle of goal and only had Kaihori to beat, but shot straight at the goalkeeper.

Nagasato herself had a shot blocked by Tanaka when she looked certain to score, following more excellent work by Iwabuchi on the left, though she injured herself in taking on Kinga, with manager Noda Akemi visibly concerned.

In the final minute of the half, and with no additional time signalled, Goebel-Yanez headed just wide from a Kawasumi cross. Iwabuchi was clearly not 100% and slumped herself in the Beleza dugout in tears, but in the first 45 minutes she was the match of everything INAC had. It took some time for her to get into the match, but following a crunching tackle on Sawa, she started to show both her high level of skill, and her fearlessness in taking on the big names on the champions' side.

Iwabuchi couldn't continue and Tanaka Mina took her place at half-time. Almost no action of note occurred in the opening minutes, with Beleza trying to attack but not getting any real penetration and INAC doing likewise at the other end.

With neither side making any headway, the second half suddenly came to life in the 58th minute when a penalty was awarded to INAC, Kawasumi scoring from the spot after the had been tripped in the box by Ariyoshi. With Iwabuchi off, Beleza's spark and creativity went with her.

Takase created some space in the 67th minute on the left with some good play to beat Iwashimizu and following her saved shot rebounding into the air Ohno had an opportunity to score but she was beaten in the air by Doko and the ball was eventually cleared.

At the other end INAC were very comfortable until the 70th minute when Tanaka had their best chance to score in the second half but her shot was just saved. From the corner Sakaguchi headed over when completely free in front of goal.

In the 73rd minute Moros made her entrance, replacing Takase up front. Three minutes later Kawasumi had a chance for a second when she beat Iwashimizu but her shot was saved.

Minutes later Nagasato was replaced by Kobayashi, and at the same time Minamiyama replaced Ji So-Yun. Kobayashi made an almost immediate impact, catching Ohno with a late challenge, though she was able to continue.

In the last ten minutes Beleza threw more women forward in an attempt to find the equaliser. Coming forward for free kicks and corners meant of course that their defence ran the risk of allowing Moros and Kawasumi to counter-attack, and both did so when presented with the opportunity.

With time running out Beleza looked to break out of defence quickly whenever INAC's moves - which involved Kawasumi and Moros almost exclusively - broke down on the left side. In the end though, without Iwabuchi, they simply didn't seem to have enough to break down a determined INAC defence.

Okayama Yunogo Belle  1 - 0  AS Elfen Sayama FC
(Attendance: 2, 710)

Belle moved into third with this win over Sayama, following Urawa's surprising draw against Fukuoka. Sayama stay in the lower reaches of the table, though will still be confident of survival.

Nakamura Miki made her first appearance for Belle, and Nakagawa was back in the starting eleven for Belle, while Sayama made three changes. Uchida and Hagiwara both made their first full starts having joined the club this year, with Saito Yuri starting having come on from the bench last week.

As early as the 14th minute Belle were ahead, eleven year veteran Tsuhako Yumiko scoring her first of the season. From a free kick just outside the Sayama area, Miyama Aya chose not to hit the ball into the area but instead found Arimachi free on the left wing. Her high looping cross was headed into the top corner of the net by Tsuhako.

Belle continued to dominate and Sayama had only one shot in the first half. At half time they replaced Saito with Watanabe and she led the attack, having three shots in the second half. However, it was Belle doing most of the damaging work and Sayama simply couldn't get through.

So with half of the season played, Belle can be reasonably happy with their position, while Sayama will hope to maintain some good form they've shown so far in the closing stages of the season.

Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies  1 - 1  Fukuoka J. Anclas
(Attendance: 2, 710)

A game which would have been seen as an easy victory for the home side turned out to be a fascinating battle, with the visiting Anclas team refusing to lie down and in the end grabbing a vital equaliser in their quest to stay in the top division.

As early as the 3rd minute a mistake by Yano Kyoko saw 17-year-old Hirata fight to get a shot in from outside the area, which just went wide.

In the 20th minute Arakawa went in for a header close to goal and seemed to be held back though no decision was forthcoming. Seconds later a cross from Tsuchihashi found the goalkeeper reaching hopelessly and it was an easy headed goal for Goto Michi making her first start of the season.

An attack for Fukuoka in the 26th minute saw Kuzuma blaze over the bar from the right side with Wada closing in rapidly. Kushige followed up with a similar shot moments later.

A free header for Yanagita from a Shibata cross was badly put over with Yanagita clearly disappointed with herself. Moments later Goto shot straight at the keeper and the chance was lost.

In the 41st minute following good pressure a rasping shot hit the crossbar and the ball came down still in play, with Shibata banging the ball over the bar on the rebound. Arakawa then also shot over following another rebound off the woodwork, following a screamer from Wada from outside the area in the final minute of the first half, which was just tipped onto the post.

Hirata had another chance to shoot in the 49th minute but shot over when she possibly had time to advance to a better position.  A slick passing move down the right saw Goto slide in for a chance at the other end but she also only succeeded in knocking the ball over the bar.

Urawa were certainly starting to have more possession in the Anclas half with Wada on the right finding little challenge in getting forward to cross or shoot. Arakawa missed while completely free from a Yano pass and running through on goal, her shot just going wide when it seemed it would be a certain goal.

Kira Chinatsu came on and had a shot just go wide in the 63rd minute, the league's joint top scorer having started the game resting on the bench.

Hirata was still a thorn in the Urawa defence’s side though, and again had a chance to shoot in the 67th minute, though it was easily saved. Yamago attempted a clearance which hit the onrushing Kawamura. The rebound went wide but could easily have bounced in.

Kato turned well from a nice pass from Wada but could only steer the ball wide in the 71st minute, with Naomoto Hikari coming on for Urawa to add extra spice to midfield. Three minutes later Anclas had a great chance to equalise but the shot was blocked.

Urawa continued to push forward looking for the goal that would seal the points, with Kato and Goto looking lively and determined. In the 77th minute Wada was replaced by Dozono Ayano in defence. Doshita came on for Kushige for Anclas in the 83rd minute as they tried to attain more possession in midfield to support their attacks. While they were clearly the weaker side, they have made progress since the opening games and again Hirata shot well at Yamago who had to palm the shot over for a corner. Doshita took the corner from the right side and Isokane leapt to score from a header at the far side to send her team mates into raptures. Urawa entered panic mode and attacked relentlessly with Goto shooting straight at the keeper in injury time.

Kato looked to have won it but shot just wide when it seemed she couldn't miss, though she was put under considerable pressure. A nasty facial injury for Shibuya as a result of an elbow from Shibata saw her stretchered off, and with just the 10 women Anclas faced a free kick. After some pinball in the box, Dozono found only the goalkeeper's grateful arms with what proved to be the last chance of the game.

In the end, Urawa had been too casual and their approach allowed Anclas back into the game.

Albirex Niigata Ladies  0 - 1  JEF United Ichihara Chiba Ladies
(Attendance: 814)

Niigata made just one change to their side for the visit of JEF United, bringing in Kodama Keiko for Yamazaki Marumi. JEF United welcomed back Ikadai Risa and Hanagiri Naomi to their starting lineup. Niigata won both matches between these two sides last season and must have felt they had enough to do so again on this occasion.

In a game of few chances for either side, it was JEF who came away with the points, and in doing so leapfrog Niigata into fifth place in the table. Hosaka Nodoka scored for the third game running, and it was a goal to grace any occasion. Hosokawa and Ikadai combined with Hosoka and the former Belle player in her first season struck wonderfully over the stretching Otomo.

Niigata's top scorer this season remains Oishi Sayaka with three goals, even though she hasn't played due to injury since the second game of the season. More than anything, this tells the story of Niigata's inability to compete with the top teams.

Iga FC Kunoichi  2 - 0  Speranza F.C. Osaka Takatsuki
(Attendance: 1,468)

Iga moved into seventh ahead of Sayama today in beating second from bottom Speranza with goals from Matsunaga and Kobayashi. The Kunoichi named an unchanged side from that which drew with JEF United, while Speranza were also unchanged from the side which lost to Beleza in Hokkaido.

Mastunaga, who scored four last season, had her first of this current campaign with a strike in the 37th minute. Following considerable pressure, star midfielder Nasu Maiko found Matsunaga with a nice ball over the top and from an ever-tightening angle she found the back of the net.

Kobayashi, Iga's top scorer and the scorer of the goal last week, was on target again in the 55th minute of this match. Miyasako Tamami - like Nasu a former INAC Kobe player - stormed down the right wing; when her cross was poorly dealt with by the Speranza defence, she simply regained possession and gave a perfect cross for Kobayshi to head in deftly past Suzuki Risa in the Speranza goal.

Speranza mustered barely a meaningful attack in the game, and will need to find better form in the second half of the season if they are to remain a top division side. Iga will be relatively comfortable if they can maintain the sort of play that has seen dividends for them thus far.

Iga FC Kunoichi:

Challenge League Tenth Round

Top Three all win - Vegalta Sendai reach 50 goal milestone

Vegalta Sendai Ladies  6 - 1  Sfida Setagaya FC
(Attendance: 1,407)

An excellent attendance of just over 1,400 spectators saw Vegalta Sendai score their fiftieth goal in ten games today, as their campaign to attain promotion at the first attempt continues to appear destined to succeed. Last week's victors over second-placed FC Takahashi were no match for the attacking prowess of the Sendai ladies, as they were hit for six today in the northeast. By half-time the score was only 1-0 however, with an early sixth minute goal giving the crowd expectations of another huge win. Nakahara Saori scored for the eighth time in six games.

In the second half Vegalta went on a goal blitz, with four strikes in twenty minutes. Takahashi Nana celebrated her first start for the club with a goal on 57 minutes, with the league's new top scorer Ito Minako making it 3-0 four minutes later. Substitute Ono Hitomi scored nine minutes later, and Ito got her second of the day on 77 minutes.

Setagaya scored a consolation with four minutes remaining, Oshima Sayuri with her first of the season. Finally, Yasumoto Sawako wrapped things up in the 89th minute for Vegalta, who have a chance next week to go four points clear of Takahashi who don't play. Vegalta travel to Kanagawa to play Nittaidai, while Setagaya are at home to JSCL.

FC Takahashi Kibikokusaidaigaku Charme  2 - 1  Tokiwagi Gakuen High School
(Attendance: 540)

For the second home game in a row FC Takahashi managed a crowd of over 500, and happily for them this time they managed to overcome the opposition, in the form of Tokiwagi Gakuen. Having lost the top spot to Vegalta Sendai last week, the students were determined to stay in touch. Tokiwagi themselves were also looking for a win to help them get back on track following recent disappointments against Sfida Setagaya and Nittaidai.

Takahashi took the lead as early as the second minute, with Nishikawa Asuka heading in from a Shigemasa corner. They had to wait until the second half before making it 2-0, Noma Fumika scored her fourth of the season.

Tokiwagi gave themselves a fighting chance with a goal for Matsuura Nagisa, just her second of the season. However the schoolgirls couldn't find another and they find themselves falling off the pace, five points behind Nittaidai in third and a full nine points behind locals Vegalta Sendai.

Nagano were once again torn apart, this time to the tune of six goals. Nittaidai, third in the table and with a chance to catch Takahashi next week, were in no mood to take things easy as they notched six goals. Uemura Shoko was replaced in the 66th minute, by which stage she had scored four goals, two in the first half and two after the break - with Shimada supplying final balls for three of the four.

Kudo Asami scored two more towards the end of the game to make the scoreline emphatic, Shimada supplying the final ball on the final goal to underline her influence on the game.

Nagano remain 11th, with only JSCL below them, though will feel they have a chance against Je Vrille Kagoshima next week. Nittaidai are at home to Vegalta Sendai in the only game involving sides in the top four.

Ehime and Shizuoka played out an enthralling 3-3 draw today, with neither side quite able to manage to pull away with a winning goal. Ehime took the lead within ten minutes, Nishigawa Sayumi following up last week's hat-trick with another goal. Shizuoka captain Kanefuda Anzu equalised from the spot on 28 minutes, before Ehime's top scorer Haruyama Saori bagged another for her collection to give Ehime a 2-1 half-time lead.

Oda Kanna scored twice midway through the second half to turn the game around, the first goal coming direct from a corner kick. Three minutes later Ehime recovered and equalised with the game's final goal, a sixth of the season for Nakada Maiko.

Japan Soccer College Ladies  1 - 3  JFA Academy Fukushima
(Attendance: 90)

Even with several of the Academy's top players away at a JFA training camp in Spain, their players who stayed at home still had enough to handle JSCL. JFA Academy made six changes from the side which lost to Tokiwagi, while JSCL brought in Toyota for Nakayama.

Kadoi Megumi continued her fine form with the opening goal in the eleventh minute, following build-up play from Mizutani and Kojima. Kojima herself made it 2-0 after 36 minutes, when it was Kadoi who supplied her with the final ball.

On the hour mark Sunaga, making her third start, got her first goal of the campaign, as she headed in from a Kojima cross. With nine minutes remaining, Sasaki Shiori got a consolation for JSCL, knocking in a free kick, just as she had done two weeks ago against Je Vrille Kagoshima.

JFA's next game is away to Vegalta Sendai on the 24th of June, while JSCL travel to Setagaya next weekend.

A scoreless draw between two very poor sides, and a point each which neither will be happy with. Kagoshima had more chances, and twice as many shots at goal. Nozami Ayumi had five of those shots for Kagoshima, while Watanabe had two for Bunnys. Both sides began with the same players that were badly beaten last week.

Kagoshima are away next week to Nagano, both desperate for points, while Bunnys don't play for another two weeks, when they take on Nittaidai.

Nadeshiko League Eighth Round

INAC stay top with defeat of Urawa Reds

INAC Kobe Leonessa  3 - 0  Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies
(Attendance: 5,101)

INAC Kobe faced their second game in a row against tough opposition, with an Urawa side unchanged from their battle against Beleza making the trip to Kobe. INAC had made one change, with Minamiyama starting in place of Nakajima.

In the first minute Urawa showed initial attacking intent, when after good work by Arakawa on the right Kira had a shot on goal which went just wide. After this opening burst of excitement, the game then settled down into a typical pattern of INAC looking to get Ohno free down the middle, with Kawasumi causing all kinds of trouble down the left. Kira had another chance in the 13th minute when set free by Arakawa on the right but her shot was rather weak and was easily blocked for a corner kick.

Indeed Arakawa was distinguishing herself for Urawa while for INAC no player in particular was outstanding. From two crosses in quick succession, the second a corner, Sawa had two headers at goal but neither were well directed. Takase on the right was finding herself well dealt with by birthday girl Yano Kyoko.

Tsuchihashi was put under tremendous pressure by her own team-mate Kohata in the 32nd minute and Kawasumi recovered the ball from her. near the Urawa penalty box. The ball was passed from left to right and Takara found herself free to shoot on the left hand side from a Kinga cross but the shot went across the face of goal. Moments later Wada tried to beat Takase when she would have been better advised to clear to touch. Again though, the chance was lost when the massed Urawa defence recovered in time. Takase then had another shot following a Kinga pass into the box but Yamago managed to produce a fine reaction save, grabbing the ball out of the air at the second attempt.

In the 41st minute Urawa had their first attack for quite some time. Kato took the ball up the left hand side, gave it to Arakawa who kept possession well and eventually Wada put in a cross which was headed away. Shortly after Shibata had a pop from outside the are but shot well over.

In the only minute of additional time Tsuchihashi delivered an inviting cross from the right which Kato couldn't quite stretch far enough to convert. Certainly it could be said that Urawa had finished brightly, having been under pressure for most of the half.

Takase had been making a nuisance of herself on the right, beating Wada who was trying in vain to stop her, and only being saved by other defenders. However, in the 52nd minute, she was finally beaten decisively. Kawasumi ran at the defence on the left, crossed into the middle and Takase stuck out her right foot and slotted home, with Wada not nearly close enough to make a challenge. Yamago was booked for complaining that the goal was offside, though replays showed that Takase was played well onside by Kohata.

Urawa were continuing to look to Arakawa to take the ball forward though she was very under-supported and Kira was barely in the game.

Moros came on for her second appearance, replacing Minamiyama in the 60th minute, and she immediately showed off her panic-inducing qualities in the Urawa defence. A double substitution for Urawa followed a first-time shot by Arakawa from a corner in the 68th minute. They brought on Fujita in her first appearance for Kato, and Naomoto replaced Yanagita.

In the 70th minute Yamago saved with her chest well outside the area to prevent Takase scoring again in what was by this stage a rare shot on goal, and from the corner Moros headed into the goalkeeper's grateful arms. In the 76th minute the action was at the other end as Tsuchihashi beat Kawasumi to produce a nice cross for Arakawa but again she shot wide when under pressure. Seconds later, Takase scored what looked to be the winner. Again she got ahead of the inexperienced Wada and finished smartly from Ji So-Yun's pass into the bottom right corner.

Kawasumi put the result beyond any doubt when she took a pass from Ji So-Yun, ran purposefully into the box and sidefooted home for her third of the season.

Following a nasty collision Kohata was stretchered off and replaced by Goto Michi, making her eighth substitute appearance in eight games. Nakada replaced two-goal heroine Takase with just over three minutes to go, and had no time to make an impression. By this stage of the game Urawa looked tired and well beaten with only Arakawa making any inroads. At the other end Moros had barely a touch of the ball as INAC were happy to relax and not strain themselves.

And thus it ended, with INAC regaining the lead in the division, having lost it for all of thirty minutes to Beleza, against whom they play in next week's big match. For Urawa this first loss will be hard to take, as they are now seven points behind the leaders.

Fukuoka J. Anclas  0 - 3  Okayama Yunogo Belle
(Attendance: 625)

Fukuoka were unsurprisingly thoroughly outclassed by a visiting Belle side eager to build on their well-deserved point earned against INAC Kobe. While that was an almost entirely defensive display, there was no need to feel such caution against an Anclas side which has only scored five goals this season.

Nakano linked up with Miyama for the first goal, the Nadeshiko Japan star easily beating her marker and shooting spectacularly into the top corner of the net from well outside the area. Eight minutes later it was Miyama who was the supplier, as always the taker of Belle corner kicks, and her precise cross was headed in by Matsuoka Miki - for both Miyama and Matsuoka these were their second goals this season.

Kado Yuka also scored her second of the season to ensure the scoreline reflected Belle's superiority in the 66th minute. Anclas tried to play the ball out of defence but Kado easily intercepted a stray pass, ran on goal untouched and had no trouble in scoring past Sawada at her near post.

Anclas stay bottom and it remains difficult to see when and where they will ever pick up significant points. Belle remain six points off the top and are at home to Sayama next weekend.

Speranza F.C. Osaka Takatsuki  0 - 2  NTV Beleza
(Attendance: 3,437)

With the excitement to the INAC clash becoming ever more intense, NTV Beleza travelled to Hokkaido to take on Speranza knowing that a win would keep them within striking distance of INAC. Over 3,400 spectators attended in bright sunshine - more than the sum total which have watched Speranza's three previous home games - and they were rewarded with some fine play from the Beleza stars.

Beleza had to wait until the second half before taking the lead however, Speranza having repelled several attacks in the first half. In the 53rd minute Speranza had good possession but Hamada attempted a square ball in midfield and Kiryu intercepted easily. Her early ball to Nagasato left Okuda chasing shadows as the self-confessed Wii Fit fanatic easily outpaced her to score with a low drive to the corner of the net.

Nagasato became the league's joint top scorer, and equalled her own tally from last year, with a headed goal in the 72nd minute. Again the goal came from a Speranza mistake. Akiba received the ball from her own goalkeeper but dallied on the ball for too long and was challenged by Nagasato, whom she subsequently fouled in trying to recover. Akiba was Nagasato's marker for the free kick, but completely lost her and it was an easy back header by Nagasato across the face of goal to make it 2-0.

Beleza's final home game before the summer break against INAC next week is set to attract over 20,000 spectators at the national stadium. Everyone hopes it's a game to remember before the players enter the international fray together.

JEF United Ichihara Chiba Ladies  1 - 1  Iga FC Kunoichi
(Attendance: 736)

JEF United and Iga were both looking to recover following defeats last week and after a relatively even affair will probably both be satisfied, if not entirely happy, with a point each. Goal scoring has been Iga's problem thus far, with only four goals scored going into this game, but it was they who took the lead in first half injury time through a penalty won and converted by Kobayashi Makiko, who scored her second of the season past the league's tallest player Yamane Erina, making her first appearance in goal.

The Kunoichi looked to have done enough to win the game, but with three minutes remaining Hosaka Nodoka levelled things up. Iga were on the attack, but following two blocked shots, the ball came to Ikadai on the right wing. She gave a long cross-field ball which found Hosaka in plenty of space and having taken one touch, the former Belle player slotted home with conviction.

JEF next travel to Niigata while Iga are at home to Speranza, one point behind them in the table.

AS Elfen Sayama FC  0 - 0  Albirex Niigata Ladies
(Attendance: 1,107)

Despite having far more possession and chances, Albirex Niigata couldn't find a way to score past Arima Shizuka in the Sayama goal, though Sayama themselves will feel that they could also have nicked a win in this scoreless draw.

An eleventh minute corner saw Arima having to punch twice to clear her line as Niigata looked for an early goal. At the other end, in the 20th minute the ever-sparkling Azami shot wide from the left badly, while in the 23rd minute she shot just wide of the left post from the right side of goal following good work by Suzuki Kaoruko to set Azami free.

In the 37th minute Niigata's Yamazaki and Kamionobe linked up well just outside the box and both had chances to shoot, when Kamionobe's shot was blocked by a defender, Yamazaki's could only shoot into the grateful arms of the 'keeper.

Into the second half and most of Sayama's best work was being done by Azami, and in the 53rd minute she showed some class to set up Suzuki who turned excellently but  shot straight at Otomo

Six minutes later Niigata will have felt they should have taken the lead. Yamazaki found herself free on the right and after the ball was crossed into the box from the left by Yamamoto, Yajima mistimed her jump for the clearing header, but Yamazaki seemed almost surprised to find the ball coming directly to her and shot over.

With two minutes remaining, Kubota Mayu shot over when close to goal, with a challenge by Kumagai just enough to put her off to ensure the game ended scoreless. Sayama next have a tough assignment away to Belle, while Niigata at are home to JEF United.

Challenge League Ninth Round

Vegalta Sendai take pole position as FC Takahashi falter

Vegalta Sendai Ladies  3 - 0  Je Vrille Kagoshima
(Attendance: 1,061)

Once again in front of an excellent crowd of over 1,000, Vegalta Sendai showed their promotion credentials with a convincing win over Je Vrille Kagoshima, who had very few chances in the game to make any impression on the scoreline.

Vegalta had to wait until the 43rd minute though, Nakahara sweeping home following an Ito header, and it was not until the closing stages that Sendai felt real comfort, Kakazu Asuka with two goals in quick succession, with Ito involved in both goals.

Sendai's win coupled with Takahashi's loss means that the positions at the top of the table are reversed, with another home game next weekend, Sendai will be in no mood to relinquish top position for the rest of the season.

FC Takahashi Kibikokusaidaigaku Charme  1 - 2  Sfida Setagaya FC
(Attendance: 560)

Having comfortably beaten Tokiwagi Gakuen, Sfida Setagaya once again defied expectations in defeating table-topping FC Takahashi. Takahashi had expectedly taken the lead in the first half, a free kick scored by Sugita Ami. However, Setagaya were not going to lie down and in injury time equalised through Tanaka Mariko, who headed home a Kawashima corner kick.

Tanaka, who hitherto had only scored one goal all season, struck again just before the hour mark to give Setagaya an unlikely lead. Takahashi pushed on looking for the equaliser but it was not to be, and they now find themselves second to Vegalta Sendai.

Both teams have big games next weekend, Setagaya travel to Sendai to play Vegalta, while the other Sendai team, Tokiwagi, travel to Okayama.

Tokiwagi weren't to be beaten so easily though after their disappointing result again Setagaya, and struck back through Sasaki on 32 minutes - her first goal this season. First year student Kawasaki Saya again came of the bench at half time and turned the game around with two goals ten minutes apart, fellow half-time substitute Horii Mizuki supplying the final ball on both occasions.

Ten minutes later Shizuoka were back in front, Okuda Mika scoring from a free kick.
